Aberconway House is a medieval merchant’s house dating back to roughly 1420. there are claims that it’s the oldest house in Wales and is certainly the only one of its kind to still exist in the town wall of Conwy. The excellent upstairs loft is maintained in a Jacobean style while other rooms reflect both the Georgian and Victorian periods. It has had a colourful history and during the Victorian age even served as a temperance hotel. As with most buildings of such age there are claims it is haunted – in this case by the wife of the very first owner. There are also stories of a sad looking Victorian gentleman who appears to young couples and then vanishes down the corridor. It is managed by the National Trust.
