Opened in 1896, The Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway was one of the first to be built in Britain and for many years it was the longest in the country. It originally used a water counterweight method to provide a gravity lift but this was replaced with electric motors in 1921. This funicular railway runs up the side of Constitution Hill from approximately sea level to a height of 462 metres. The views of Aberystwyth and Cardigan Bay from the top of the railway are exceptional. There is also a hilltop park featuring a wonderful camera obscura, historical exhibits and restaurant facilities. Truly a must-see attraction for visitors to Aberystwyth.
