Bovey Castle is to be found in the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It is a 20th century mansion which is now (2015) used as a five star hotel. In 1930 the Great Western Railway took over the building and converted it into a hotel and this has been how this grade II listed building has been used ever since albeit changing hands a number of times. The house was built in 1907 and was designed by British architect, Detmar Jellings Blow. It was was owned by the Hambleden family and used for a country retreat. Built in the in Jacobean style, the hotel has 64 bedrooms and 14 large three bedroom lodges. It provides luxury breaks for all the family in a wonderful peaceful setting in Dartmoor National Park.
Bovey Castle was winner of the ‘AA Small Hotel Group of the Year’ award for 2014-2015. It has been named by Red Magazine, as one of the top six places to have afternoon tea in the UK.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of sporting activities including, badminton, mountain biking, croquet and tennis. There is also a spa and golf course as well as fly fishing, art classes and cider and sloe gin making.
