Owned and managed by the Powys County Council, the Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery is located in the old Shire Hall, in the town of Brecon. The focus of the Museum is life in brecknockshire and Wales over the Millennia. It features a Rural Life gallery with displays of many items including those from a traditional Welsh kitchen. The Archaeology Gallery includes standing Stones and the very rare early medieval Llangorse log-boat. Other sections even include a bed slept in by King Charles I. It has been recognised as one of the best ‘small’ museums in Britain but is currently closed for refurbishment.
